The data set was compiled by American Digital Cartography, Inc. Edgematching the database with the US highway network and new features were added by members of the Geographic Information Systems Laboratory, Pellissippi Research Institute, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

The elements of the Canadian highway database have been tested by visual comparison with 1:1,000,000 Digital Chart of the World. Where new roads have been added which were not in the source database, link alignments have been digitized or converted from digital sources acquired from the Digital Chart of the World with a map scale of at least 1:1,000,000.
